New Release of the Clinica Brand

From a Preventive Dentistry Perspective


As awareness and the desire for a lifetime of healthy, beautiful teeth grow, the concept of preventive dentistry, or working with one’s dental professionals to maintain dental health, has begun to receive more attention.
In 2014, Lion will rerelease Clinica brand products as a series of products for self-care, as recommended by dental care specialists, under the theme of preventive dentistry.

What Is Preventive Dentistry?
Preventive dentistry is dental care from a perspective focused on the prevention of cavities and other dental problems before they occur, rather than the treatment of oral health issues after they arise. Such an approach entails both professional care in the form of regular dental checkups and self-care conducted under the guidance of professionals to actively promote dental health.
The Preventive Dentistry Movement Is Gaining Momentum in Japan
As evidenced by the 2011 enactment of the Law to Promote Dental and Oral Health, and the 2012 release of the 2nd edition of“Health Japan 21,”a list of health-related policy goals issued by the central government, initiatives to shift the focus from treatment to prevention in order to ensure lifelong oral health have been picking up strength in Japan. An ever greater number of local governments are responding by enacting ordinances related to dental health and initiatives to promote dental and oral health are gaining momentum nationwide.*
Against this backdrop, the number of people who visit dental clinics for regular checkups is gradually increasing. A Lion survey found that among women in their 30s, those who had regular checkups increased from 28% in 2009 to 44% in 2012. Going forward, awareness of the value of preventive dentistry is expected to continue to grow.


*The number of prefectures with such laws increased from one out of 47 in 2008 to 36 in 2013 (as of December 27, 2013).
 
Clinica, from a Preventive Dentistry Perspective
The three key points of self-care as it applies to preventive dentistry are ensuring that fluorine remains in the mouth, plaque is thoroughly removed and bacterial growth suppressed.
The new Clinica series covers all three of these points, helping to improve the dental health of users with a comprehensive product lineup that enables self-care in line with the recommendations of dental professionals.
