Lion to Release “new Ban” Series:
An Antiperspirant and deodorant lineup that combines antibacterial agents with new natural flavonoids

Lion Corporation (President: Sadayoshi Fujishige) announces the release of the “new Ban” antiperspirant deodorant series. This series of products offers the complete elimination of odors caused by sebaceous perspiration, particularly unpleasant to women, by blending natural flavonoids found in rosemary, hypericum and other extracts with antibacterial agents. The “new Ban” series will be launched nationwide on Wednesday, February 7, 2007.

Perspiration containing sebum. Compared with the perspiration produced during exercise, which is mostly comprised of water, sebaceous perspiration contains a large amount of protein and lipid, the root cause for odor. Activity of the skin resident microorganisms serves to accentuate the smell. In recent years, sebaceous perspiration has become more evident, reflecting environmental changes, increased stress in daily life and changes in dietary habits. |

Objective of introducing the new product |

People are becoming increasingly self-conscious about unpleasant odors. A Lion survey revealed that 80% of respondents are conscious of the smell of others while 78% feel self-conscious about their own smell. The survey also highlighted that consumer demands for antiperspirant deodorants were shifting from the prevention of sweat and a dry feeling to the elimination of unpleasant body odor. In addition, users of powder-type antiperspirants and deodorants placed their highest priority on improved deodorization and odor elimination effects, reinforcing their dissatisfaction with existing products.
While conducting research on body odor, Lion Corporation discovered that sebaceous perspiration exudes odor that is difficult to eliminate. Lion continued these studies and found that odor from sebaceous perspiration is released when enzymes in bacteria break down sebum and sweat. Even after the bacteria die off, the enzymes remain for several hours and continue to break down sebum and sweat. Based on these results, Lion succeeded in developing a technology to control sebaceous perspiration odor, which is strong and difficult to eliminate.
Given these developments, Lion is releasing a new Ban series, for which it has added natural flavonoids such as rosemary and hypericum extracts to antibacterial agents. The new lineup includes “new Ban Deodorant Powder Spray” that thoroughly controls strong and unpleasant odor from sebaceous perspiration, “new Ban Refresh Powder Sheets” that easily wipe away sticky sebaceous perspiration and odor from the body even when on the go, “new Ban Deodorant Roll On” and “new Ban Deodorant Powder Stick” that apply directly to the skin to control odor from sebaceous perspiration, and “new Ban Deodorant Spray for Foot” that prevents foul-smelling and sweaty feet. |

In addition to the antibacterial agent isopropyl methylphenol (IPMP), four kinds of natural flavonoids (rosemary extract,*2 hypericum extract,*3 sophora flavescens extract*4 and mulberry extract*5) were newly combined to thoroughly control the unpleasant odor from perspiration that contains sebum.
