Lion Establishes “Lion Eco Standards,”
New Environmentally Friendly Criteria for its Products

— Application of a New Environmentally Conscious Perspective Throughout Products’ Life Cycles —
With the aim of contributing to the realization of a sustainable, recycling-oriented society, Lion Corporation (President: Sadayoshi Fujishige) commenced companywide ECO LION activities in 2006. As part of these activities, Lion established the new “Eco Lion Standard” to show consideration for the impact from its products on the environment. Introducing a clear environmental perspective into its product development endeavors, Lion will further promote the creation of “Eco Products”.

Revision of Forecasts for Fiscal 2006 (January 1 - December 31, 2006)
Lion has made all efforts to develop environmentally friendly products, establishing environmental criteria such as the Three Principles of Environmentally Responsible Composition Development*1 and the 3 Rs of Container and Packaging Reduction*2. In 2005, the Company pledged to become a leader in corporate environmental responsiveness in its current medium-term management plan VIP II 09. To contribute to the realization of a sustainable, recycling-oriented society, the entire Lion Group engages in ECO LION activities based on five main initiatives*3, foremost of which is exhibiting environmental concern through its products. In addition, Lion created the ECO LION logo (see right) as a symbol of these activities to promote understanding of Lion’s corporate stance both inside and outside the Company.

“The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions,” “effective use and recycling of natural resources,” “environmental care through company products,” “safety management for chemical substances” and “raising environmental awareness in-house.”

New “Lion Eco Standards” for Environmentally Friendly Products
To realize a sustainable, recycling-oriented society, we must recognize the value of petroleum and other limited resources, and companies must make every effort to reduce the environmental burden generated by their products at each life cycle stage. In this context, Lion established Lion Eco Standards as criteria to evaluate the degree to which its products’ incorporate environmental consciousness. Lion Eco Standards are based upon the perspective of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which evaluates environmental burden in the whole product life cycle from raw materials procurement to manufacturing, as well as logistics and disposal after household use. Products will be evaluated in accordance with certain environmentally friendly points specifically and quantitatively to set up indicators for product development. Products are defined as “Eco Products” when they meet at least one criterion in each assessment category (see below). Lion will strive to expand its lineup of “Eco Products” while providing customers with a variety of information highlighting its activities.
