Lion to Release Bufferin Karyu (Granule), Easy-to-Swallow Antipyretic Analgesic Providing Quick Relief for Headaches and Fever

Lion Corporation (President: Sadayoshi Fujishige) today announced the Company’s plan to market the new antipyretic analgesic Bufferin Karyu (Granule) through pharmacies and drug stores nationwide from Wednesday, November 21, 2007. Overcoming a major weak point characteristic of granule-type pain relievers and fever reducers, the easy-to-swallow Bufferin Karyu (Granule) provides quick and effective relief for headaches and fever without a bitter aftertaste thanks to Lion’s proprietary micro-particulate coating technology.

1.  Objective
Lion Corporation launched the tablet-type analgesic Bufferin A in 1963. To date, the lineup of Bufferin products has consisted mainly of tablet-type antipyretic analgesics.
The Company conducted a survey in 2007 to ascertain the requirements of antipyretic analgesic users while at the same time gathering related information. Based on survey results, 21% of respondents identified “quick relief and effect” as a critical requirement, while 16% focused on “the ease with which medication could be taken.” In evaluating antipyretic analgesics, the granule-type was characterized as having a quick effect by 59% of respondents, while 37% commented on their bitter taste. Based on these results, Lion Corporation concluded that users were experiencing difficulties in swallowing granule-type antipyretic analgesics.
Spurred by market comments, Lion worked diligently to develop an easy-to-swallow granule-type antipyretic analgesic, culminating in the release of Bufferin Karyu (Granule). Utilizing the Company’s proprietary micro-particulate coating technology, Bufferin Karyu (Granule) allows the coating to quickly dissolve, facilitating the release of active ingredients in the stomach while removing the discomfort of a bitter aftertaste.

2. Product features
(1)  Easy on the stomach, Bufferin Karyu (Granule) provides quick and effective relief for pain and fever
Lion’s proprietary micro-particulate coating technology allows granules to pass through the mouth, dissolving and releasing the active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid quickly in the stomach. Furthermore, Dibuffer HT, an antacid, reduces the burden on the stomach and speeds up absorption of active ingredients. Thanks to this technology, Bufferin Karyu (Granule) is easy on the stomach, providing quick relief.

(3) Handy, stick-type packet
The stick-type packet comes in handy when headaches occur suddenly.

Bufferin Karyu (Granule) does not cause drowsiness and can therefore be taken in various situations, including at work.
