Dec. 10, 2021 Sustainability

Lion Corporation has been recognized for leadership in corporate sustainability by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its prestigious “A List” for the first time. Lion’s place on the list reflects its score of A (the maximum score), granted recognition of the Lion Group’s water security action and transparency.

CDP’s annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognized as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency. In 2021, over 590 investors with over US$110 trillion in assets and 200 major purchasers with US$5.5 trillion in procurement spend requested companies to disclose data on environmental impacts, risks and opportunities through CDP’s platform. A record-breaking 13,000 companies responded.

In 2019, the Lion Group established the “LION Eco Challenge 2050” long-term environmental objectives for 2050. Aiming to realize a decarbonized, resource-circulating society, we are advancing initiatives aimed at solving issues related to decarbonization, plastics and water resources. In terms of water resources, we are working to reduce water usage throughout product life cycles, from raw material procurement to production, distribution, use and disposal. To reduce water usage during production, in 2016 Lion installed a wastewater recycling system to recycle wastewater generated during manufacturing processes at its Chiba Plant, which uses the most water among Lion’s plants. We are also focusing on reducing water usage during product use by customers, with our full lineup of liquid laundry detergents formulated for one-rinse washing from 2020. Furthermore, Lion endorsed the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) in May 2019 and has been enhancing its disclosure in line with said recommendations.

Based on its founding spirit of “benefitting society though business activities,” the Lion Group will continue working to reinforce its environmental, social and governance (ESG) activities toward the realization of a sustainable society.
