Aiming for the realization of environmental and social sustainability, Lion Corporation is working toward advanced plastic recycling. As part of these efforts, Lion will participate in a pilot test to be run by a council comprising member companies of the Japan Association of Chain Drug Stores and major household product manufacturers that is aimed at creating a platform for the collection of used packaging and containers. During the half-year testing period, which kicks off June 30, collection boxes will be placed at 31 drug stores in Yokohama, Kanagawa, for the collection of used packaging and containers.

The purpose of the pilot test is to identify technological and other issues that could arise anywhere in the process from in-store collection to the creation of products from the recycled materials in order to build a platform for the collection of used packaging and containers. In addition, through the pilot test, we will call on consumers to do what they can right now to help achieve the SDGs and to participate in the circular economy. Together with consumers, we will work toward a society in which recycling household products is the norm.

Lion established the LION Eco Challenge 2050, a set of environmental management objectives for 2050, in June 2019. We are promoting the formation of environmentally friendly habits together with consumers in order to expand the scope of our contribution to society as a whole. In May 2022, Lion announced the Lion Group Plastics Environmental Declaration, designating the achievement of a continuous cycle of plastic use as the Company’s goal for plastic recycling.

Through this initiative, to be implemented as joint project with retailers, we aim to create new materials for use in stores from the used packaging and containers collected. As a member of society ambitiously taking on environmental problems, Lion will contribute to the realization of a decarbonized, resource-circulating society through co-creation with consumers.
